For a month in May the Planet Earth Live BBC1 crew got to experience Kenya’s Masai Mara in the full force of the wet season. It was exquisite…so many birds were in breeding plumage, the topi’s in full on display mode, there were very few other cars and apart from an inordinate amount of mud and getting stuck it was fantastic. Witnessing the live part of a production was a proper eye opener; keeping satellites up and running in severe weather requires a huge amount of expertise and seeing how the gallery was run made me incredibly grateful that my job is out in the calm of the Mara! Those guys juggle and balance constantly, it’s very delicate so hats off to them all, it was a real pleasure seeing how it all ticks along.
